How Do I Get Longer or Shorter Replies on RolePlaya?

The short answer: for shorter replies, turn on Chat Mode in the chat options and pick Chat: Short or Chat: Long. For longer, richer replies, turn Chat Mode off, choose More detail in Regenerate with direction, or ask with a double bracket instruction such as ((give me longer, more detailed replies)). The Continue button keeps a scene going without you typing anything.

Shorter replies

• Chat: Short. Open the chat options and tap the Chat tile once. Replies become one to three sentences, like texting.
• Chat: Long. Tap the tile again. Replies are dialogue only with no narration, but a proper paragraph rather than a one-liner.
• One-off. Use Regenerate with direction and tap Keep it shorter on a reply that ran on, or add ((keep your replies short)) to your next message.

Chat Mode is set per conversation and each chat remembers how you left it. Intimate scenes are always written at full length, whatever the setting.

Longer replies

• Turn Chat Mode off. Tap the Chat tile until it is off, and replies go back to full roleplay with narration, action and description.
• Ask for detail. Use Regenerate with direction and tap More detail, or add ((write longer, more detailed replies)) to your message.
• Give more to work with. A one-word message gets a short reply. Describe what you do, what you say and how you feel, and the character matches your energy.
• Use Continue. The Continue button asks the character to carry the scene on without you typing anything.
• Change model. Bit of a Playa and Total Playa members get longer replies and more AI models to choose from. Tap the model name in the message bar to switch.
