How Do I Get My Character on the RolePlaya Homepage?
Captain, founder of RolePlaya
The short answer: characters with a Quality Score of 3 or more out of 8 appear on the RolePlaya homepage, and higher scores are shown more often. Raise your score with a strong intro, a detailed background, a full greeting, a good image and good tags. Then get extra reach from the Discover filter, Creator’s Picks, Spotlight and boosts.
Step 1: check the Quality Score
Open your character in the editor and look at the score bar above the Save button. It runs from 0 to 8, updates as you type, and tells you exactly what to add. It looks at five things:
- Background detail. Who they are, how they behave and what they want.
- Greeting length. A full opening scene, not a one-liner. See How to Write a Greeting That Gets Replies.
- Intro. The short pitch people read on the card. Make the first line count.
- Image. A clear, striking image is what gets the click.
- Tags. You can add up to eight. Use the ones people actually browse by, and add seasonal tags such as Halloween when they fit.
Characters scoring 3 or higher appear on the homepage, and the higher the score, the more often they are shown.
Step 2: use every free way to be seen
- Discover. If you have five or fewer published characters, they appear under the Discover button on the homepage, which exists to help new creators get found.
- Creator’s Picks. On Bit of a Playa and Total Playa, pin up to five of your best characters to the top of your creator page so every visitor sees them first.
- Spotlight. Total Playa members, the weekly top twenty creators and the Rising Creators winners get a free daily spotlight on the Spotlight page.
- Leaderboards. The Top Creators board rewards the biggest week, and Rising Creators rewards the fastest growth against your own recent weeks, so a creator of any size can win it.
- The Arena. Arena bouts put your character in front of every member who watches and votes. See How to Win in the RolePlaya Arena.
- Challenges. Every creator challenge has its own World that stays up afterwards, so entries keep being found.
Step 3: boost
A boost pins a character into the Top 3, Top 6 or Top 12 on the homepage for a set time. If a tier is full, your boost waits in the queue and your time only starts once you go live, so you never lose a minute. The Boost Queue page shows who is live, who is waiting and roughly when each goes live. Boost Cards, handed out at random to members chatting on the RolePlaya Discord, give a free six-hour Top 3 boost.
