What Are Scene Backgrounds on RolePlaya?

The short answer: when your story moves somewhere new, a beach, a bedroom, a forest or a speakeasy, Total Playa members automatically get a background image of the character in that place, faded in behind the chat. It costs nothing to generate. Tap Save Wallpaper to keep one in your collection for 225 Playa Points, and switch the feature off in Settings if you prefer the character’s own art.

How Scene Backgrounds work

• Automatic. When the story changes location, a matching scene crossfades in behind your chat. There is nothing to set up.
• Free to generate. It is included with Total Playa.
• Keep the good ones. Tap Save Wallpaper in the top corner after a scene loads to add it to your Snapshot collection, for 225 Playa Points.
• You can be in them. If your Playa has an avatar, you can appear in scenes with the character. Without one, the character appears on their own.
• Turn it off from your profile settings if you would rather keep the character’s original art for the whole chat.

Getting better scenes

• Name the place. “We duck into a neon-lit noodle bar” gives a clearer scene than “we go inside”.
• Move the story. Scenes appear when the location changes, so a time skip or a trip somewhere new brings a fresh one.
• Set your Playa avatar if you want to see yourself in the moment.
